3M™ Precision Finished Metal* (PFM*) is a recommended choice for crown and bridge restorations in cases where metal-free alternatives are not an option. 3M PFM* gives you the precision of 3M CAD/ CAM technology supported by the trust and authenticity of a global brand. 3M PFM* uses a time tested technology process used in high end fabrication of engineering and space components to manufacture the metal substructure. It uses the Lava™ Wax block milled on 3M precision CAD/CAM systems to create a wax coping which is then cast into a metal frame work thus providing improved fi and precision. It is available only via authorized 3M milling centers.

Lava™ Wax is a wax block for pattern milling used in the casting technique for creating PFM restorations with excellent precision offered by the 3M CAD/CAM system. Lava Wax does not leave behind any residue when fired. A wax pattern is produced by scanning the saw model with the Lava™ Scanner and then shaping the pattern with the Lava™ Design software.

Unlike burnable plastic plexiglass (PMMA) or polycarbonate (PC), 3M Lava™ Wax block is made from an industrial wax. This allows dental labs to wax-up and rework the pattern very easily for nesting up to an average of 9 units per block.

The wax from the Lava™ Wax Block has a melting temperature of 150°C which is much higher as the common wax used within the dental lab with a melting temperature range from 50°C to 100°C.

The LavaTM wax block is Compatible with Lava™ Form, Lava™ CNC 500, Lava™ CNC 240 and CNC 250i-Lava Materials Approved Machines.
